Energy service provider npower, has formed a strategic partnership with Stockport-based business Aimteq, to deliver an integrated demand side response (DSR) platform to their business customers.

As part of the partnership npower will use WEMS hardware and software services, developed specifically for the project.

Simon Wood, Head of Sales at Aimteq commented, “our in-house design team have spent the last two years working closely with npower and the development team at WEMS.” Simon continues “WEMS have a rare capability in both hardware and software development and this has enabled us to produce a bespoke platform to meet the evolving challenges of balancing electricity demand across the National Grid. The npower demand side response solution is a great example of the Internet of Things being implemented in a manner that actually delivers real-world commercial benefit.”

Tim Wright, Head of R&D at WEMS commented “The ability to start back-up generators or control plant remotely to augment or reduce energy consumption on-demand is changing the way that we think about energy in the UK. The platform used to handle this switching of loads needed to be fast, reliable and simple to deploy. By using our wireless hardware and our high-availability, cloud-hosted software platform, npower will be able to guarantee a cost effective, reliable solution to suit all businesses.”

“finding a partner for DSR was challenging and Aimteq have proved they have the flexible and innovative attitude needed to enable npower bring self-delivered demand side response products to our customers”
